First Baptist Church is interested in outreach...but not necessarily in the "traditional" meaning of the term. Often times outreach means reaching out to get people to come in...to our church family, to our way of thinking and doing things, to our pre-existing "box" of ministry (our church). However, at First Baptist we want to define and exercise outreach in a slightly different way...reaching out to meet needs in our community and world, not just in order to bring people in, but because the love and message of the gospel compels and commands us to do so. We are interested in meeting needs for their own sake...because that's what Jesus taught.
So what does this look like at First Baptist Church? Well, we're still hashing that out. With the calling of a new pastor in March 2006, we will begin to discern and explore how we, as a church and as individuals, can meet various needs in our community. For us, this will not be "just talk," but will rather be ways that we can engage our "faith in action."
This Fall, we will be starting a series of Ministry Teams, in order to carry out ministry in tangible and powerful ways. Please see our Connect page for more information on ministry teams and to explore ways that you can get involved.
